GMS Inc. provided an update on the continued execution of its platform expansion strategy with its first entries in the New York City market. These include the acquisition of Tanner Bolt and Nut Inc.
“We are excited to announce our first entries in the New York City market with the acquisition of Tanner Bolt and Nut and the expansion of our relationship with USG to supply ceiling products from a new greenfield location in Brooklyn,” said John C. Turner Jr., president and CEO. “We are pleased to take this first step into such a significant market. With Tanner’s focus on tools and fasteners, these additions, along with the establishment of several new greenfield yard locations and AMES stores over the last several months, represent our continued commitment to the execution of our strategic priorities of platform expansion and Complementary Product growth.”
Founded in 1979, Tanner Bolt and Nut, based in Brooklyn, N.Y., is a distributor of fasteners, tools, safety and related construction products to the broader New York City market. The acquisition of Tanner’s four metro area locations establishes GMS’s inaugural positioning with complementary product offerings in the New York Metro area.
Building on a 40-plus year legacy in the market, President Jeffrey Tannenbaum and the Tanner team will continue to lead the business under the Tanner brand name. Tanner will partner with the legacy GMS operations of Capitol Building Supply Inc.

MFMBP Completes Expansion Project
MFM Building Products has recently finished a substantial expansion project that began in February 2021.
The thrust of the expansion project was adding 48,000 square feet to the production area and the acquisition of new production equipment to meet the rising demand for orders. MFM has been acquiring additional raw materials to ensure product availability for their customer base, and the new facility now accommodates this additional inventory. The building, which was planned to be completed by the fall of 2021, was finished in June 2022 due to extended lead times for raw materials. The exterior portion of the facility was completed in November.
Other aspects of the expansion project included constructing new offices in the main headquarters building and the addition of a new, state-of-the-art Research & Development laboratory for increased quality control and new product development. Once the production equipment is fully operational, the company expects to hire additional full-time employees.
“We definitely had some setbacks with the current state of the supply chain, which caused some delays in the completion date,” said Tony Reis, president. “Now that we are finished, we are focused on meeting the needs of our customers and hope to be introducing several new waterproofing products to our portfolio. As an ESOP company, there is a lot of excitement among our employees as MFM continues to grow.”
Golterman & Sabo Becomes 100-percent Employee Owned
Employees at architectural products provider Golterman & Sabo received an unforgettable holiday surprise. At a recent company meeting, the entire staff learned they would become owners of the more than 75-year-old business. Current owners and brothers, Herb and Ned Golterman, announced they sold the company to a newly formed Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Employees acquired 100 percent ownership as of December 31.
The Golterman family selected an ESOP sale because it allows the ownership of the company to transition without selling to a third-party equity firm or competitor. “We wanted the company to continue to operate as it always has,” said Herb Golterman. “This way, the culture, vision, and values will not change.”
Golterman & Sabo built its success on the loyalty and talent of its employees and enjoys an unusually high level of employee retention.
“Our employees are outstanding performers,” said Ned Golterman. “Now that they are owners, the sky is the limit.”
Dennis Voss, president of Golterman & Sabo Architectural Products since 2020, will continue his key leadership role, as will other G&S executives. Both Golterman brothers will continue to work at the company.
Founded by Herbert Golterman Sr., in 1946, the company has been family-owned and operated since its creation. The original Herbert Golterman Company is now known as Golterman & Sabo Inc. The company manufactures acoustical products for global distribution, plus supplies an array of architectural products and installation services to the Midwest region.
Golterman & Sabo is the parent company of G&S Acoustics, G&S Architectural Products, FabricWall, and G&S Cinema Acoustics.
The company was advised by Owen Schmidt of Principal Financial Group and Steve James, president and CEO of SCJ Fiduciary Services.
